USD/CAD in session highs near 1.2640

FXStreet (Edinburgh) - The greenback is extending its upbeat tone vs. its Canadian neighbour today, with USD/CAD challenging fresh highs around 1.2640.

USD/CAD focus on CAD data

The pair is looking to consolidate the recent break above the 1.2600 mark, ahead of the release of critical employment data and Housing Starts in the Canadian economy. Market consensus expects the jobless rate to stay put at 6.8% in March and the Net Change in Employment to come in flat.

In the US, Export and Import Prices will be the only releases today followed by the speech by Fed’s Lacker.

USD/CAD levels to watch

At the moment the pair is advancing 0.37% at 1.2625 with the next hurdle at 1.2656 (high Apr.2) followed by 1.2710 (high Apr.1) and finally 1.2784 (high Mar.31). On the other hand, a breakdown of 1.2578 (low Apr.1) would aim for 1.2574 (high Apr.3) and then 1.2559 (low Apr.8).
