US NFP expected at 230k - Nomura

FXStreet (Bali) - Nomura expects the US NFP to cone at a net new 230k jobs to be added to the US economy in January.

Key Quotes

"We expect the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to report on Friday, 6 February, that a net new 230k jobs were added to US nonfarm payrolls in January."

"This would mark the slowest monthly pace of job growth since August and corroborates the incoming data, which have pointed to some slowing in economic momentum recently. Nevertheless, payroll growth over 200k still remains consistent with growth near 3%."

"We expect private payrolls to increase by 220k, as government employment should rise by a near trend-like 10k. The January employment report will incorporate the annual benchmark revisions for the establishment survey. Thus, the monthly profile of nonfarm payroll over the last few years will be revised."

NZD/USD on its way to 0.7400

NZD/USD continued its upward trajectory in the mid-Asian session, having closed flattish in the previous session, little affected by the bullish US services report.

Japan nominates Harada - dovish - to be BoJ member

Japan has nominated Yutaka Harada to be Bank of Japan board member. According to Yujiro Goto, FX Strategist at Nomura, "the nomination of Mr Harada would be regarded as a clear sign of Prime Minister Abe’s strong support for Governor Kuroda’s accommodative policy stance. Market expectations for BOJ easing are likely to remain high, which would continue to support USD/JPY this year."
